First Call: W7VDW in 1954 Other Call(s): W6HKT W6LXQ
Theron was born in Payette, Idaho to John W. and Sylvia F. Hiatt. He had one older brother Roland, an older sister Elaine, and a younger sister Flora.
He left eastern Oregon after high school graduation to join the Navy. He met the love of his life through a letter which was written on a dare from a buddy. After 18 months he met the young lady Reta I. Krohn in Bemidji, Minnesota where she lived. Within 8 hours he proposed marriage. He went back after his leave and sent her an engagement ring in the mail. Her mother put the ring on Reta's finger. They were married on March 21, 1943 and they had been married 67 plus years when she died in August of 2010.
After discharge from the Navy, Ted worked as a TV repairman. Then spent 25 years at Tektronix as a manager. After his career there, he spent 4 years as a pay phone service technician before finally retiring for good.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters and his 5 week old great-great grandson Noahh.
Ted liked to steelhead fish, bowl either right or left handed, square dance and spend time with his family, almost always holding Reta's hand.
With his passing we have lost our patriarch, friend, supporter, and role model for life. He will be sorely missed.
We miss you Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather. Give Grandma a hug from all of us.
There will be a visitation for Ted on Saturday, March 22 from 11a.m. to 1p.m.; Funeral service beginning at 1p.m., followed by his interment and military honors ceremony at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, 6801 SW Sunset Highway, Portland.
