Calvin Simsen of Grandview was born March 18, 1926 in Kennewick, WA to Arthur and Matilda Simsen.
In 1944, he and his friend, Dwayne Pierce, were sent home from school for whispering in class. Instead of going home, they enlisted in the Air Force to defend their country in WWII. Calvin trained in Texas as an engineer on a B-17 flying fortress. After the war, he worked for the US Geological Survey around Mt. Adams.
In 1948, he married Ethel Ann Campbell. They moved to Los Angeles, where he attended USC. In 1952, he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. They moved to Richland and he worked for General Electric at Hanford.
In 1960, they moved to Grandview and raised cattle on his 20 acres. After a car accident in 1980 from low visibility due to dust from Mt. Saint Helens, he retired from Hanford. He continued to farm, and pursued his hobbies of restoring antique cars and talking on his ham radios.
Funeral services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Prosser on Thursday, Dec. 15th at 10:30 a.m. Concluding services and burial will follow at Riverview Heights Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Prosser Funeral Home on Wed. Dec. 14th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Prosser Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
