MARQUETTE - John C. Wasmuth, age 90, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
Born March 30, 1926, in Negaunee, a son of Rodney and Lillian (Coldren) Wasmuth, John was a lifelong Marquette area resident. Following his graduation from Graveraet High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving during World War II. While in service, he met his future wife, Anna, and the couple was married. Upon his honorable discharge, John returned to the Marquette area and began a long career with the Michigan Inspection Bureau, working as a field rating inspector. He retired in 1988 at age 62. John's passions and interests included family activities and his community involvements included serving on the Board of Marquette Junior Hockey, the Marquette Township Tax Accessor Board, and he was a very active HAM radio operator. A talented musician, playing the trombone, John played with the Dixieland Express Band and the Negaunee City Band for a number of years. He will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
John is survived by his children, Patricia Wasmuth of Atlanta, GA and John Wasmuth of Marquette; two grandchildren, Sarah Wasmuth of Escanaba and John Wasmuth of Missoula, MT. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; and his brother, Rodney.
Graveside services, with veteran's honors, will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery on Friday, October 7, at 11:00 am. Rev. Leon Jarvis will preside. Veteran's honors will be accorded by members of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 380.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of choice.
