Tom Hough Haymond, 96, formerly of Fairmont, died Friday (May 28, 2004) in Rochester, N.Y.

Mr. Haymond retired from Westinghouse many years ago and was respected by the people with whom he worked. A pioneer in amateur radio and active for 80 years, he held the call sign of W8CCN, originally issued as 8CCN. He had friends he talked to all over the world.

He was a member of Mountaineer Amateur Radio Association (M.A.R.A.) in Fairmont and was presented with the Don Morris Memorial Award in 1989. Other radio organizations he was associated with are ARRL, OOTC and QCWA.

He is survived by his wife, Antoinette Agrippe Haymond; a stepdaughter from his first marriage, Joanne (Jim) Palmer of Virginia; a stepdaughter from his second marriage, Carole (Richard) Black; two stepgrandsons, Jonathan (Cherie) and Michael (Amy); and four stepgreat-granddaughters, Belinda, Samantha, Stephanie and Natalie.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda.

We just learned that one of our former QCWA members from chapter 30 became a SK last month. He had been inactive and residing in a assisted living home the past few years up in New York state with cancer . He was very active over many years and often mistaken to be W8NNNNN. His membership number was 03462
