W8DX is from Cleveland, Ohio, originally licensed in 1954 as WN8SLR. Took the General Class exam at the Federal Building in Cleveland in 1957. W8DX, Richard Cotton administered the test. Moved to California in 1963, became Extra Class in 1972, received N6HL callsign in 1977, then assumed the protectorship of Mr. Cotton's call in 1997. Holds five-band DXCC, five-band WAZ, Honor Roll awards, active DX'er. Past President of the Southern California DX Club.

I worked as a film director and presently teach in the Cinema-Television Arts Department at California State University, Northridge. I am very interested in the history of wireless and historical writing. I prefer DX-ing on CW and am at the key in the early morning and late evenings.
