Wyatt Evans "Mac" McDaniel of Naples, Fla., passed away to eternal life on July 21, 2018.
Born Jan. 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Wyatt D. and Nelle Evans McDaniel, and was raised on the family farm in Amesville, Ohio. He attended Ames Bern Elementary and High Schools, graduating in a class of 34 in 1943.
He built his first crystal radio in 6th grade, which developed his lifelong passion for broadcasting. His true love was HAM radio, and his call letters W8HTD were heard around the world. Wyatt received his degree in radio technology at Valparaiso Technical Institute. He transitioned to TV broadcasting as the chief engineer at WTOL-TV, Toledo, Ohio, and later at WJAR-TV Providence, Rhode Island.
Wyatt married Helen J. Golbinec RN on June 27, 1953. They raised four children and retired in 1989 to Punta Gorda, Fla. They enjoyed traveling the world, and volunteering in church and community activities while spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Wyatt was preceded in death by Helen, his beloved wife of 61 years.
Wyatt is survived by his sister, Pauline Frances McDaniel Burson of Sun City Center, Fla.; his four children, Mara (John) Wolski, Jana Stahl, Sarah (Marcel) Sander and Evan (Carolyn) McDaniel; grandchildren, Drew and Alex Wolski, Chase, Victoria, and Luke Stahl, Joshua and Jacob Sander, and Ella McDaniel; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. at Amesville Presbyterian Church, 18 N. Franklin St., Amesville. Interment in Amesville Mud Sock Cemetery will immediately follow.
