Smith, Elvin L.SMITH, Elvin L. age 85 of Trotwood, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 4, 2010. He retired from DP&L after 24 years of service in the Communications Department. Elvin was a veteran of WWII having proudly served in the U.S. Army as a medic with the 136th Field Hospital in Okinawa and Ie Shima. He was also a Ham Radio Operator and a member of the Dayton Amateur Radio Club with call letters W8JQX. He is survived by his wfe of 66 years: Dolores (LaPlante) Smith, sons and daughters-in-law: Gary (Debbie) Smith of TX, Larry (Linda) Smith of Xenia, James (Sherry) Smith of NV, David Smith of Trotwood, daughter and son-in-law: Susan (Kevin) Forsthoefel of Columbus, grandchildren: Gary Jr., Brian, Laura, Erin, Michael, Justin, Karin, Megan, step-grandson: Jeff, great grandchildren: Madison and McKenzie, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Lucy (Watts) Smith and sister: Alice VanHook. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood). Interment will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
