Dr. F. M. Smith, 103, formerly of Saffel Ave. in Sycamore, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.
Dr. Smith was born May 4, 1906, in Galion to the late Harry G. and Mary (Monnett) Smith. He married Helen V. (Raugh) Smith Jan. 9, 1931.
Dr. Smith was a retired physician and a member of Sycamore United Church of Christ. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League and was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator with the call letters W8QOV. He worked for many years at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. He started his practice in Sycamore in 1933 and in 1970 his son joined the practice which became Sycamore Medical. He retired in 1988.
He was a 1924 graduate of Nevada High School, a 1928 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and a 1932 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He did a one year internship at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus before coming to Sycamore.
He loved to read and talk as a ham operator
