SILBAUGH, Ruth B. Ruth Blackburn Silbaugh, a resident of Naperville, IL since 2012, formerly of Dayton, OH, passed away at age 94 on Thursday, March 27, 2014 in Bolingbrook, IL.
She was born April 20, 1919 in Dayton, OH.
Beloved wife of the late Joseph K. "Joe" Silbaugh, whom she married June 19, 1943 and who preceded her in death July 2, 2013, loving mother of Bonnie (Thomas) Grossman of Bolingbrook, IL, Donna (Craig) Smith of Xenia, OH, Sandra (Edward) Picardi of Sturgis, SD and Cindy (John) Nixdorf of Naperville, adored grandmother of Joseph Grossman, Ann (Pastor Chet) Evans and Jennifer (Jeremy) Witte; April (Devon) Sadowski, Kirk Smith and Derek Smith; John George (Beth) Nixdorf, Sarah Nixdorf, Abigail (Nathan) Moore, Samuel Nixdorf and Joshua Nixdorf, cherished great-grandmother of Josiah, Matthew, Luke, Jason, Nathaniel , Mira and Katherine,devoted daughter of the late Ernest and Cora Blackburn, fond aunt of many.
Ruth was one of the few early female ham radio operators and a member of the Buckeye Belles ham radio club. Ruth worked for National Cash Register, Dayton, OH as a technician and later as a supervisor at a printing company, retiring at age 65. She was a member of North Riverdale Grace Brethren Church, Dayton, OH. Ruth traveled the world with her husband, her daughter, Sandy, and with her other daughters and they went on trips within the United States. She enjoyed life and her family and was an ambassador with Friendship Force. In Ohio, Ruth would knit hats for the homeless every year at Christmas time. She did a lot of machine knitting and belonged to many knitting clubs. Ruth and her husband, Joe, rode bicycles every morning into their nineties. They both loved God, had Christ in their hearts and lived their faith.
Visitation Monday, March 31, 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St, Naperville.
Funeral Services will follow Monday, 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Chet Evans officiating.
