Captain Hoyt S. Scott USNR W8WV *1898-1953* Of Cleveland, Ohio, in a 1948 QST article read; Captain Scott recently received the Army-Navy Air Distinguished Service Medal of China at a ceremony in Washington DC. The decoration was presented at the Chinese Embassy by V.K. Wellington Koo, Ambassador from China to the United States.
Our subject, Captain Scott was credited for his work in China as engineer in charge of Naval communications systems at Chunking. Six other Naval officers were decorated at the same time, including Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
Captain Hoyt S. Scott, a well known Ohio amateur, has been an illuminating engineer at the General Electric Lamp Department in Cleveland since 1934. He was called to active duty in Naval communications in 1941 and during the years of his service enjoyed the distinction of flying around the globe three times.
His naval career has reflected credit upon the institution of amateur radio as well as upon himself.
Our VIP has many patents in the illuminating sector, a spark gap operator OTC 0117 membership. There is a record of Capt. Scott expiring in 1953. His prized picture was with General Chaing Kai-Shek in his possession.
Scott was said to have delivered the eulogy at President Franklin D. Roosevelt's funeral.
