Paul D. Needler, 86, of Hanover, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at his residence. He was born May 12, 1924, in Hartford City, the son of Harold James and Dorothy Agnes Cook Needler. He served in World War II from Dec. 7, 1941, to Aug. 15, 1945, in the Merchant Marines and the Coast Guard. He was an assistant vice president and cashier for the former First National Bank of Madison. In September 1942 he received a diploma in radio-television reproduction from Coyne Electrical School Radio Division. He served as state director for the military-affiliated radio systems for several years. He also served as a special reserve deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff Department, was a founding member of the Madison Jaycees and a member of the Indiana Sheriff Association. He was also a member of Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1969.He is survived by three daughters, Iwana L. Stanley of Rushville, Vicki Hedglin of Hazard, Ky., and Donna Stephens of Hanover; one sister, Connie Trueblood of Lady Lake, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arletta C. Sauley Needler, whom he married Jan. 17, 1948, and who died May 2, 2001; and his parents.The funeral was at Vail-Holt Funeral Homes Hanover Chapel. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Military honors were conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. Madison Courier 11/23/10 |
