Nap, Kimbel Anton PHD September 27, 1949 - May 23, 2012, Kimbel Anton Nap was born on September 27, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During the last year he struggled with cancer. The pneumonia concluded his struggle on May 23, 2012.
Kimbel was raised in Glendale, WI. He attended Nicolet High School and graduated in 1967. He went to MSOE where he received two degrees, one in Applied Science and a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology. He and his buddy Larry Schotz then went to work at Motorola Company in Schaumburg, IL.
Kim was a serial entrepreneur and in 1974 they started a company called Draco Labs. During this time Kim designed and built new a auto alarm system which protected autos from being entered. Several years later Schotz started LS Research and Kim became VP/COO of that firm. Kim went on to become the general manager of ASI, a manufacturer of electronic equipment.
It was in the 1980's that Kim went to UW Milwaukee and earned an Executive MBA in 1983. After achieving this degree Kim became the North American Managing Director of LEM USA, a Swiss company headquartered in Milwaukee. After five years he joined with two partners and started Innovatec.
Again Kim showed that he was a serial entrepreneur. After Innovatec Kim worked for the UWM School of Continuing Education. During his lifetime he was awarded nine US patents, all related to electronic devices. Kim returned to LEM USA in 1998 through 2012.
In 2004, Kim returned to college to embark on a post graduate study which culminated in awarding Kim with a Doctorate from Cardinal Stritch University in 2007. For nearly three decades Kim taught hundreds of students as an Adjunct Professor at MSOE, UWM, Concordia University and Lakeland College.
Kim held an amateur radio extra class operators license (W9NAP) which began at the age of nine, where at one point he had communicated with a NASA space station. He also held a private pilot license.
In the past few years Kim turned his attention to studying investment strategies. Soon after, he was invited to teach his new found skill set to new investors.
During his lifetime he was awarded the Outstanding Young Man of America Award, MSOE Outstanding Alumnus Award, was listed in Who's Who in the Midwest and awarded the Master Key of Success Recognition from MSOE.
Kimbel married Elaine, his wife of 31 years. They were avid cruising fans, boating around Lake Michigan as members of the Milwaukee Yacht Club and the Milwaukee Boat Club. They also loved taking cruises on larger ocean ships. They have logged 25 cruises in their lifetime throughout the world. In 1996 they acquired a beautiful four acre lot in the Town of Cedarburg where they undertook a five year mission to build a genuine Frank Lloyd Wright "Prairie" House. The building is one of the few so registered in Wisconsin and designed by the Taliesin Architects.
Kim was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA), Ozaukee Radio Club (ORC), the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA), National Association for Amateur Radio (ARRL), Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT), the Frank Lloyd Wright Association and professional organizations such as the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC), Market Technicians Association, Wisconsin Electronics Association, Industrial Advisory Committee MSOE, Executive Agenda, TEC 7 and CEO Focus Wisconsin.
Kimbel died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the age of 62. Beloved husband, soul mate and best friend of Elaine (nee Varvaro). Loving son of Lucille. Beloved brother of Rodney (Linda) of Oshkosh WI. Loving brother-in-law of Robert (Frocyn) Varvaro of Schaumburg, IL. Wonderful uncle to Dustin, Angel, Christina and Eric (Kristi). Great uncle to Robby, Griffin, Brody and Ronin. Kim leaves behind many relatives, special friends, business associates and students. He was preceded in death by his father Anton, father-in-law Jasper Varvaro, mother-in-law Lucy Varvaro and Sydney. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, from 4-9 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM, at Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 West Capitol Drive, in Brookfield, and again on Saturday, June 2, from 9 AM to the time of Funeral Services at 10 AM.
