Howard T. Francis, age 85, of Park Forest since 1956, formerly of Tinley Park, passed away on Aug. 29, adoring father of Louise Fortuna of Scranton, PA and Tom (Susan Dion) Francis of Pennsville, NJ; cherished grandfather of four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; loving companion of Violet Johnson of Park Forest; preceded in death by his beloved late wife, Arista Francis (1995).
Howard was a biomedical engineer and electrochemist. He founded the department of biomedical engineering at Cook County Hospital and prior to that was head of the electrochemistry section at IIT Research Institute. He was an amateur ham radio operator for 70 years and an active member of Chiburban Radio Mobileers. His call letters were W9NHM.
