Richard S. Zehr was born April 28, 1921, in rural Gridley, son of Stephen A. and Inez E. Ulrich Zehr. He married Lois E Albrecht June 22, 1947, in Waldo Mennonite Church.

Surviving are children, Sharl Lynn (Gary) Yordy, Carol Ann (Dan) Pardikes, Stephen Richard (Barb) Zehr and Amy Lou (John) Albi; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Aldyth (Pete) Springer and sister-in-law, Marcie Zehr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois on January 7, 2013 and brother, Melvin 'Hap' Zehr.
