Clayton S. Cardy, 97, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at Bellin Memorial Hospital, Green Bay, on Sunday, January 20, 2013. He was born November 8, 1915, in Sturgeon Bay to Emanuel R. and Delia (Zettel) Cardy. Clayton graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1933.
In 1933, he received his Amateur Radio License, call sign W90V0. Clayton was active locally and state wide in Amateur Radio operating and building ham radio equipment. He was recognized by his peers as a pioneer. Clayton held a federal license since 1933, and volunteered in numerous service activities including, Civil Defense, and Emergency Radio on the state and county level.
During World War II, Clayton worked at Peterson Builders where he was in charge of wiring schematics on numerous war ships. After the war, he entered the construction business, eventually opening his own business where he constructed cabinets, custom homes and offices.
Clayton enjoyed trap shooting, fishing and hunting with his family. In later years, he enjoyed using his computer to document family genealogy. On April 27, 1938, he married Leona Anschutz in Sturgeon Bay. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2010. Clayton's parents were known for their vegetable and fruit farm on the west side of Sturgeon Bay. Survivors include four children, Darrel (Carole) Cardy, Whitehall, MI; Donna (Dan, now deceased) Wolske, Algoma; Margie Cardy, Green Bay; Tom (Alice) Cardy, Okemos, MI; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Cheryl (Dennis) Nicoski and their children, Alex and Ben; Janet (Darin) Manzano and their children, Caroline and Camille; Christopher Cardy; Trudy (Brian) Patten and their children, Jakob, Colby and Breanna; Steve Wolske, Mark Wolske and his daughter Arianna; Kendall Gabert; a sister, Caroline Holyoke, Piper City, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother Clifford.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013, at Corpus Christi Church, the Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Forbes Funeral Home and then after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church until time of services. A prayer service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to American Archaeological Conservancy in his memory.
