Gordon Lauder, age 93, of Webster, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
He was born October 20, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Marvin and Maybell (Gordon) Lauder. He attended public schools in Elmhurst, IL, and was a 1938 graduate of York Community High School. Gordon served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned primarily with the 249th Signal Operations Company in the European Theater and was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. Gordon recently went on the Honor Flight out of Duluth, Minnesota, to visit the World War II Memorial and other Washington, D.C. monuments. He thoroughly enjoyed the day.
On October 6, 1947, Gordon married LaVerne Schott Moberg in Oak Park, IL. He adopted LaVerne.s daughter, Sandra, as her father, Oscar Moberg, was killed in World War II. Prior to and after World War II, Gordon worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1978.
When Illinois Bell moved its headquarters to Springfield, IL, in 1960, Gordon and his family moved there too. In 1979, he and LaVerne retired to the Warner Lake residence that was homesteaded in 1897 by his grandparents, Alexander and Edith Lauder. Gordon was an avid fisherman, and this was the reason for retiring to Warner Lake. He passed this love of fishing to all his children. Gordon and LaVerne loved living on the lake, and loved their cat, Button.
Gordon was a lifetime member of The American Radio Relay League (AARL). As an Amateur Radio (Ham) Operator . W9PVD . he is now a ... ?.? .Silent Key (SK). . He was a founding member of the Illinois Bell Pioneers, was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and was a volunteer firefighter with the Hertel Fire Department. He also enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes and became a member of a flying club in Springfield, IL.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Sandra and William Evans, Bolingbrook IL; Scott Lauder and Vera Terec, Libertyville IL; Jacqueline and Thomas Bisaillon, Buckingham IL; Joyce and Joseph Fischer, Lockeford CA, and Jill Adams, Bloomington, MN; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Maybell Lauder; his wife, LaVerne on October 10, 2010; uncles, Ralph Gordon and Frank Gordon; sister-in-law and spouse, Irene (Schott) and William Wiedow; and son-in-law, Gordon Scott.
The memorial service honoring the life of Gordon Lauder will be conducted at 12 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Lakeview United Methodist Church, 23980 County Rd. X, Hertel, Wisconsin, with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Inturnment with full military honors will follow at White Pine Cemetery, Warner Lake.
