Mr. James Doren "Doc" Fry, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and formerly of LaPorte, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, in Port Charlotte.He was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Pawnee City, Neb. Mr. Fry had retired from NIPSCO after 33 years of service. He was a past member of Door Village Lions and a member of Chesterton Moose and Faith Lutheran Church in Punta Gorda, Fla. He was a member of Door Village United Methodist Church while living in LaPorte. He was a private pilot, enjoyed listening to his favorite music, and was an amateur radio operator for 55 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. On Aug. 31, 1942, in Omaha, Neb., he married Betty Lou Shinabarger, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 14, 1996, in Punta Gorda, he married Beverly Stewart, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Ronald (Patricia) and Russell (Paula), both of Chesterton, Roger (Dori) of Walkerton and Robert (Dawn) of Valparaiso; one stepson, Rex of Pataskala, Ohio; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Saturday at noon at Door Village United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Jones officiating.
