Daniel Laco Rounda was born to Evangelino (Laco) Rounda and Rita June Swearingen Rounda on May 9, 1956 in Leavenworth, KS. After graduating from Leavenworth High School, he attended the University of Kansas, where he earned a BSE in mathematics and history, then a bachelor's degree in computer science.
Daniel married Judith M. Bowen on Aug. 8, 1975. She survives, along with son Luke and daughter Nancy.
Daniel's 35-year career as a computer programmer began when he accepted a position with Texas Instruments in Austin, TX in 1980. When he and Judy moved back to Kansas in 1984 to be close to family, Dan went to work for Innovative Software, where he was a primary software developer for the original Smart Software. The last 15 years of his career, he worked as a Software Architect at DST, Inc. in Kansas City, MO, before retiring in Nov. 2015.
Dan was a licensed amateur radio operator holding the Extra class operator license. He enjoyed this hobby since earning his Novice class license in 1968 with the help and encouragement of his uncle Vernon Ray Swearingen. As the Secretary Treasurer of the Pilot Knob Amateur Radio Club of Leavenworth, Dan helped grow the club's online presence in the late 1990s. His callsign was WA0YJE, now a Silent Key.
Dan grew up in the Pilgrim Congregational Church, along with many of his extended family members. He continues his personal relationship with God.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to American Radio Relay League.
