Joseph Rhodes Davis, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 1, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Wayne County, Mo., to Joseph C. and Lela Rhodes Davis. He first married Clara Wulfers, who preceded him in 1987. He then married Mary Lee Ford on May 3, 1990, at Piggott, Ark. Mr. Davis served in the in the Navy during World War ll as boatswain's mate in the South Pacific. He was the owner and operator of Edgewater Glass Co. for more than 20 years. He coached boxing and was an AAU Golden Gloves winner. He also coached Connie Mack and Little League baseball. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elks Lodge No. 639, Knights of Columbus No. 11205, Thomas A. Langen Assembly, fourth degree, and was a life member of VFW Post 3838. He was a charter member of the board of directors for Shook Cemetery in Wayne County. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Davis of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Ann Brookman and husband, Gordon, of Cape Girardeau; four sons, George Davis and Lori of Cape Girardeau, Matt Davis and wife, Rhonda, of Collierville, Tenn., Tim Davis and Sherrie of Jackson, Mo., and Danny Davis of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Jean Bradfield of Glendale, Mo.; grandchildren, Sarah Davis of St. Charles, Mo., Seth Davis of Georgia, Ben, Maggie and Hannah Davis of Tennessee, Stephanie Davis of Chicago, Otto Davis of Cape Girardeau; and much-loved stepfamily of one stepdaughter, three stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. An Elks service will be at 6:30 p.m., Parish prayers will be at 7 and K.C. Rosary at 7:30. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kizito Wenani officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
