Bill Schwarting, 90, formerly of Scotia, passed away on November 11, 2017 at Glendale Nursing Home in Glenville, NY. Born May 20, 1927 in Brentwood PA, he was the only child of William and Anna Schwarting. Bill grew up in Williamsville, NY, where he completed high school and enlisted in the Army. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950 and received a Master of Arts degree at SUNY Albany in 1952. He married Elizabeth Betty McIntosh August 17, 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Williamsville, NY. In 1950 they moved to Scotia NY, where he accepted a Social Studies teaching position in the Scotia-Glenville School District, retiring in 1984. Bill was an active member of the Schenectady Amateur Radio Association and Airstream's Wally Byam Caravan Club International, 1982-2004.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Betty in 2015. He is survived by his four children: William Schwarting III of St. Petersburg FL, Robert Schwarting (Deborah) of Clifton Park NY, Karen (Douglas) Herrmann of Rockford MI and Nelson Bud Schwarting (Susan) of Burnt Hills NY.
He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Glendale Nursing Home for their care and compassion and to the members of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for their support.A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 547 Saratoga Road Glenville, NY on Saturday November 18 at 11am.
