Hi Fello Amateur Radio Ops,
I was first licensed as WV2EMF (novice) in February of 1959 at the age of 14 and upgraded to General class (WA2EMF) by early 1960.Does anyone remember the "rice paper" license signed by C.B. Plummer back in those days? I then upgraded to Advanced in the early 1980s and Extra Class in the early 1990s (yeah... it was still 20 wpm).

Back in the early 1960s 40 meter dipoles sprang up like dandelions on garden apartment roofs throughout Bayside, Flushing, Fresh Meadows and Queens Village, New York. It was a grand time to be young and a General Class operator! CW was still prevalent, AM was the voice mode of choice and the strange squeals of SSB were becoming more frequently heard.
My interests in Ham Radio are varied. I enjoy CW... and in fact was a CW intercept operator for the US Naval Security Group back in the Viet Nam era. I enjoy contesting, both HF and VHF using CW and SSB.
I also enjoy reconditioning and operating boat anchor radios, dabble in digital and am frequently found on the OMISS and 3905 Century Club nets.
Amateur Radio has been a great influence on my adult life as the hobby directed me toward a career in electronic hardware, computing hardware and subsequently to software development and management.
My family and I relocated from Stony Brook, L.I., New York to Rock Hill, South Carolina in September 1991. Rock Hill is in York County, SC, just across the state line and 25 miles south of Charlotte, NC.
York County has a large number of very active amateurs and we all look forward to meeting you on the air. If you need a sked to confirm SC, email me!
I was honored to serve as President of the York County Amateur Radio Society for 2002, and Rock Hill Hamfest Chairman numerous times since 2003.
I am also a member of the CDXA, Carolina DX Association and enjoy chasing DX and supporting the activities of my fellow CDXA members!
Look for me in contests operating either WA2EMF or as a member of the YORK COUNTY CONTESTERS..... W4YCC.
Since January 2003 I hold the appointment of ARRL Assistant Section Manager for Area 2 of South Carolina. I am eager to assist amateurs in my area to improve their level of skill and readiness to respond to Emergency Communications needs of our state and community.
I look forward to working with individual amateurs and clubs in SC Area 2 including Cherokee, Chester, Lancaster, Laurens, Spartanburg, Union, and York counties.
Please see WWW.ARRL-SC.ORG for important information about ARRL Leadership in South Carolina under our Section Manager, N4UFP, Dr. Marc Tarplee.
