Gus Psaras, 95, of New Milford, CT, formerly of Ossining, NY, died on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the home of his daughter Maria Oritiz. He was the husband of the late Angie (Papajis) Psaras.Mr. Psaras was born in Chios, Greece, November 18, 1924, a son of Pantelis and Marika (Tsiropinas) Psaras. He attended schools in Greece and immigrated to the United States in 1948 settling in Ossining, NY. He opened the Highland Restaurant in Ossining in 1955 along with his brothers Jimmy, George and Angelo.The restaurant became a well-known landmark for many who stopped in for a good meal or just to chat over a cup of coffee.In 1986 after the sale of the restaurant business, Mr. Psaras become a real estate broker with Barbara Johnson Real Estate.He was an accomplished artist who painted many of the scenes of the Village of Ossining and the Hudson River.Mr. Psaras was an active member of the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church of Yonkers, NY and the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Danbury, CT. He is survived by two daughters, Maria and her husband Steve and Marcella and by two grandchildren, Alexis and Nicholas. |
