Mildred M. Horn, 90, wife of Rev. Walton R. Horn of Colony Park, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at Berks Heim.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Dollie (Dunkelberger) Shutter.
She attended Simon Gratz High School and graduated from Reading High School.
She met her husband at Perkasie Park, Pa., and in 1938 married in Elkton, Md. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary last Nov. 19.
She worked for Horn's Electric in Perkasie in the 1950s. She was a secretary for RCA Service Company in Sellersville until she moved to Reading in 1966, when her husband was ordained and accepted the calling as pastor to Bern Lutheran Church. She worked as a secretary for Pomeroy's and Carpenter Technology before working for Boscov's from 1983 until 1987 as a tour guide.
She loved to travel and continued being a tour guide for the Laureldale Senior Club, of which she was a member. Her love of music shone through her as a children's choir director, bell choir director, organist and leader of the Sweet Notes Chorus and Happy Go Lucky Chorus of Laureldale. She was a member of the Reading Radio Club with the call letters of WA3YRO.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children: Rev. Richard W. Horn, husband of Ute Kattner-Horn, Parsippany, N.J.; Jeanne M. Scheerbaum, Hellertown, Pa.; and Kathryn Elbert, wife of Robert Elbert, Wyomissing. There are also nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Service Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. from St. Mark's U.C.C., 211 Greenwich St., Reading. Rev. Carl W. Filer officiating. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
