Jeffrey J. 'Jeff' Beals, a dedicated and passionate amateur radio operator, made a profound impact on the amateur radio community. Born in 1951, Jeff's fascination with radios began at a young age. He started with building crystal radios and shortwave listening before earning his first call sign, WN2OUK, at the age of 12 in Long Beach, NY. Throughout his life, Jeff remained committed to emergency communications and public service, holding various leadership positions within the ARRL and QCWA.
Jeff served QCWA as a National Director and Historian. He was elected Vice President in 2023. Jeff curated the Yesteryear Village Old Radio and TV Museum in West Palm Beach, FL, showcasing QCWA history. He held FCC Extra Class & First-Class Radiotelephone licenses and was highly active in the ARRL Field Organization, serving as Section Manager, Section Emergency Coordinator, Affiliated Club Coordinator, and Technical Coordinator. He also held the position of Vice Director for the ARRL Southeastern Division.
Jeff was a Life Member of QCWA, ARRL, OOTC, AWA, and a Fellow of the Radio Club of America. He was an active member of numerous radio clubs and organizations, including the ARRL A-1 Operator and Old Timer Clubs. Jeff received commendations for his exemplary service during major hurricanes and other emergency activations. Professionally, he was a licensed insurance adjuster and broker, residing with his wife Myra, K3PGH, in Royal Palm Beach, FL.
