My interest in radio began as a teenage AM DXer in the early 50s. During this time I became publisher of the National Radio Club.s AM DX publication .DX News.. Those were the days of White.s Radio Log and its directory of all U.S. AM stations, complete with their frequencies and power. I was first licensed as KN2IAF in 1954 in New York, later as WA4WDV in North Carolina and Florida. As a Novice, it was a Johnson Viking Ranger and a wire antenna. As WA4WDV I am still using my Collins KWM-2 and 30L-1 acquired in the early 60s. While a 21 year Air Force veteran, this station went with me and was operated all over the world. Now retired on Sanibel Island, Florida. Same Collins rig, with a Hy-Gain AV-620 vertical antenna. May 11, 2016 |
