Charles M. York passed away February 22, 2012, in Oklahoma City. He was born in Sapulpa, Okla., Jan. 25, 1925, to Lucille and William M. York. He grew up in Okla. City and was graduated from Northeast High School. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and flew as a Photo Navigator on F-7Bs (B-24s) in the Pacific Theater. He married Frances M. Ray on Dec. 9, 1944. Upon discharge from the Air Corps, he attended OCU and the University of Oklahoma, receiving a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. He served in the active Air Force Reserve while attending OU and was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Air Force in Jan. 1951. After serving as a Navigator on B-36s for 21 months, he was discharged and returned to Okla. City to work for Loeffler-Greene Supply Co as a sales engineer. In 1957, he went to work for The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, retiring after 37 years as Director of Site Support. Upon retirement, the Board of Regents of OU awarded him the title of Director Emeritus. He retired from the Okla. Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonel after 36 years of service. Prior to his death, he was a Colonel in the Confederate Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Fran York; and their son, Randy and his wife Kathy; a granddaughter, Erika and her husband Rod; a great-granddaughter, Emily; and a sister-in-law, Glenda Ray and family. Memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at 10 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15th, Okla. City, with interment following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
