On Tuesday, December 21st, 2021, James (Jim) Alfred Thomas of Ponca City OK passed away at the age of 84. James was a loving father of three children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. James was born on September 21st, 1937, in Butler MO. He lived and worked in Ponca City since he was a young boy when his parents, Jesse (Dude) Thomas and Alice Cummings Thomas moved the family to Ponca City from Butler Mo in pursuit of work at Conoco Oil Company. They lived in the Sunset Park area of Ponca City and was Baptized at the Sunset Baptist Church when he was 16. James had a passion for HAM and 2-way Radios (WA5MDN) and flying small aircraft. James built a FAA grass airstrip (FAA 27ok) located between Lake Ponca and Kaw Lake on Prospect near Enterprise Rd, where he lived. James was preceded in death by his father Jesse Thomas, his mother Alice Thomas, and his brother Calvin Thomas. He is survived by his three children, Treasa, Ken and Darrell, and several cousins, nieces, nephews and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A fly-in / drive-in memorial service at Thomas Landing will be Sunday, 1pm, January 9th, 2022. It will be an open-air outdoor service held at Thomas Landing Airstrip near Enterprise Rd and Prospect Ave in Ponca City OK. A BBQ pulled pork dinner and desert will be served after the service. In-door restrooms are available. |
