David Stephen Kleespie, 73, passed away June 14, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born to David and Audrey Kleespie on August 9, 1944 in Berkeley, California, but was raised and schooled in Chehalis, Washington. As a young man, he enlisted in the US Navy stationed at Long Beach, CA, where he served as a radio technician and an expert rifleman on the USS Walke. After completing his service, he worked for Reynolds Aluminum in Longview, CA from 1969-1975. David later moved to Mississippi where he worked for Southern Pipe and Supply and then Port City Trucking until his retirement.
His passion was amateur radio. He was an avid HAM radio operator and a longtime member of the American Radio Relay League DX Century Club and the Quarter Century Wireless Association, operating under the call number WB5PSN. He also enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle.
David was predeceased in death by his parents, David and Audrey Kleespie, and his daughter, Diana Kleespie-Keevy.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Grace Tharp Kleespie; his sister, Carolyne Kleespie-Keech of Chehalis, WA. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Jeannine Petra Grant, of Chehalis, WA; his children, David Lee (Janice Marie) Kleespie of Arlington, WA; Trisha (Steven) Kleespie-Reeves of Chehalis, WA.
David also leaves to cherish his memory, his step-daughters, Gina (Ricky) Spratlin of Greenville, MS and Donna (Matt) Scucchi of Benoit, MS. His grandchildren, Chelsea Estes of Centralia, WA; Jeffrey Michael (Katrina) Kleespie of Des Moines, IA; Devin (Veronica) Hazlett of Harvey, ND; Jacob (Tasha) Hazlett of Onalaska, WA; Kiaya (Shelby) Bender of Vista, CA; Jordan (Sarah) Kelley of Vancouver, WA; Bree (Brandon) Hodge of Southaven, MS; Chris Cora of Benoit, MS; Seth Spratlin of Greenville, MS and Rachel Scucchi of Benoit, MS; his great-grandchildren, Myka David Kleespie, Alex Martinez, Ryan Hazlett, Samantha Hazlett and Lukas Hazlett; and his beloved dogs, BooBoo, Sissy, Zoe and Tiko.
The family would like to send a special thanks to DRMC Hospice, Dr. Allan Thompson, Marcie McGaugh, NP-BC-VA, CBOC, Dr. Khansur-VA, Dr. Jordan Windham-VA and Dr. Maroun Hayek for their excellent care during his illness.
Visitation will be Monday, June 18, 2018 from 12 to 2 PM at Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville, MS with the funeral services to follow at 2 PM. Brother Arthur Scott will be officiating. Burial will be at the Roundaway Cemetery at the Roundaway Baptist Church, 776 Steiner Road, Doddsville, MS 38736.
