It was announced last night / early this morning on Facebook that Bill Pasternak WA6ITF has become a Silent Key, after a long illness. Bill was the founder and producer of Amateur Radio Newsline and founder and administrator of the Amateur Radio Newsline Young Ham of the Year Award (co-sponsored by CQ Magazine). Bill was the author of many columns for many Amateur Radio publications over the years. Bill was an outspoken advocate for all thing Amateur Radio. His achievements in Amateur Radio and in the promotion of it are too numerous to mention. I met him a long time ago (on-line) back in the good ol' days of Prodigy. Bill was always friendly, outgoing and willing to help anyone in any way he could. He will be sorely missed, and he has left us with a very large pair of shoes to fill. My condolences to his wife Sharon KD6EPW and the rest of his family. 73, OM. Larry W2LJ Bill is the Producer/Writer of the weekly Amateur Radio ARNewsline bulletin service. Bill co-founded Newsline as the Westlink Radio Network in 1976. First licensed in 1959 as WA2HVK, he has written two best-selling technical books, authored the "Looking West" column for 73 Magazine for 22 years; writes the VHF, FM and Repeater Column for Worldradio Magazine; has written countless articles in Amateur Radio, hobby electronics and broadcast related periodicals; produced and/or directed most ham radio films and video's released by ARRL or AMSAT since 1974 and originated the "Young Ham of the Year" award program in 1986. He is a member of ARRL, QCWA and the Radio Club of America. He has received numerous awards for contributions to the betterment of the Amateur Radio Service. These include the DARA Special Achievement Award (1981), ARRL Southwestern Division Meritorious Service Award (1988), DARA Radio Amateur of the Year (1989), AMSAT Outstanding Contributions Award (1990) and ARRL National Certificate of Merit (1995). Bill is a Broadcast Engineer with award winning KTTV-Fox News. He is a Broadcast Consultant in design and installation of digital and analog television post production facilities, an independent educational/industrial film and video producer and writer. His programs have won several major awards, the New York State Film Festival (1986 1987 competition) and the Chicago International Film Festival (2002 2003 competition).ipient for his contributions to a "Regularly Scheduled Television News Program" (1984). Bill is the only person ever chosen to be recipient of both the prestigious Dayton Amateur Radio Association's "Specific Achievement" (1981) and "Radio Amateur of the Year" (1989) awards. He also was presented the ARRL National Certificate of Merit (1995) in recognition of his contributions to the "furtherance of the goals of the Amateur Radio Service." Bill and his wife Sharon (KD6EPW) reside in Santa Clarita California with their two "puppy people".
