Ronald D. Jones
1948-2014
Ronald D. Jones, 66, of Mantorville, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Ron was born on May 28, 1948, in Liberal, Kansas, to Fred and Bonnie (Fessler) Jones. He graduated from Liberal High School in 1966 and went on to electronics school in Kansas City. From 1967 to 1971, Ron served in the U.S. Air Force reserves as a radio operator, including a year spent in Vietnam.
After leaving the military as a staff sergeant, he returned to the Mantorville area and was employed by the local gas company for six years and K-M Telecom for 30 years. Before retiring in 2010, Ron worked at Home Depot in Rochester. His retirement was spent doing all of his favorite hobbies. Ron continued to be an amateur ham radio operator, making contacts all over the world, spent quiet days flying remote-controlled model airplanes, or could be found in his woodworking shop.
In recent years, Ron and Betty, his wife of 28 years, visited Alaska, Arizona, South Dakota, New Zealand and Australia, sharing their love of travel. They also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, Brody and Chloe.
Ron is survived by his wife, Betty, of Mantorviile; her children, Pam (Dan) Herrley Kucera of Faribault and Jeff Herrley of Dodge Center; grandchildren, Brody and Chloe Kucera, of Faribault; and many friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents.
