Horseheads - JACK M. SLOCUM Age 90 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday November 1, 2018. Jack was born January 2, 1928 in Warsaw, NY the son of the late Clifford R. and Bertie Keeney Slocum. He married his wife Phyllis J. Freeland Slocum on July 18, 1947 and they recently celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary on July 18, 2018.
Jack was pre-deceased by his daughter Susan K. Slocum in 1951. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Horseheads, NY and was very involved with The Boy Scouts of America.
Jack enjoyed being a HAM Radio Operator and his call letters were WB2FXK . He retired from the Gas Department of NYSEG in Horseheads, NY with 40 years of dedicated service.
Jack loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them.
Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years Phyllis J. Freeland Slocum; sons and daughters-in-law: Jack D. & Janice Slocum of Victor, NY and Kirk David & Janice Slocum of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren: Matthew & Katie Slocum , Jennifer & Jeff Simmons, Heather & Jeremy Haskins, and Kyle Slocum & Adrianna Ruggiero; great grandchildren: Susan Griffith May, Darren Griffith, Nathan Slocum, Charity Slocum, Jackson Haskins, Wyatt Haskins, and Quinn Slocum ; great great grandchildren Michael May and Lily May; brother : Donn C. Slocum of Schenectady, NY ; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church 408 South Main Street Horseheads, NY on Monday November 5, 2018 from 10 AM to 10:45 AM.
Mass of Requiem will be celebrated following calling hours at 11 AM with Rev. Wanda Copeland officiating.
Mr. Slocum will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY.
