Ruthanna 'Div' Pearson, 85, died at Country Meadows at Trolley Road, York, on Thursday, October 17, 2013. Born May 22, 1928, in York, she was the daughter of the late Charles O. and Pauline F. (Baublitz) DeVeny.
She was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Blue Mountain Waves Unit # 12. 'Div' managed Suburban Bowlerama for over 20 years and retired as office Manager from L.S. Lee. She was a 1947 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. She was a member of Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church, past president of the church council, and a member of Shiloh American Legion Post #769. An accomplished bowler, she won two Ladies State Championship All Events and doubles, along with various 600 club events. She belonged to the PA Semi-Pro Women's Bowlers and was voted into the Bowling Hall of Fame.
'Div' was an avid amateur radio operator and belonged to the York Amateur Radio Club and the Keystone VHF Club of York. She was also a member of the Australia, Japan, and Young Ladies Radio Societies, as well as New Zealand, Central PA DX Club, and Israel Radio Societies. She had awards from all over the world, having been licensed in and operated from Australia, Jordan, and Austria. Ruthanna traveled around the world, including to St. Petersburg, Russia, where she met some Russian Amateurs who showed her their part of the world.
She is survived by a brother, Robert DeVeny and his wife, Betty of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Sangermano and her husband, Anthony of Delmont, Pa.; and nieces and nephews. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Road, York, with her pastor, The Rev. Kathy A. Swords, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Road, York, PA 17408; or to Grane Hospice, 4 Lemoyne Drive, Suite 201, Lemoyne, PA 17043.
