Subject: Virginia McGowen, WB6BZZ QCWA #30199 SK Virginia Louise McGowen passed from this life in Fresno, Ca. on Friday, September 9, 2011, at the age of 83. Formerly a resident of Oakhurst, she lived in the Fresno/Clovis area for the past eight years. She was born on March 9, 1928, in Jacksonville, Il. to Bill and Violet Fernandes. She graduated from Newport Harbor High School and attended Fullerton Junior College prior to her marriage to Glade McGowen in 1946. Throughout her children's school years, she was active in PTA, 4-H, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. As a CB and Ham Radio operator, she was active in Civil Defense, Emergency Preparedness and Search and Rescue Operations in both San Bernardino and Madera Counties. Locally, she was a member of the Mountain Amateur Radio Club. The family wishes to thank St. Agnes Hospice and the staff of Cottonwood Court, Fresno for the extraordinary care and kindness. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Glade in 1997; her daughter Penny in 1970; and her daughter Peggy in 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Noblett and her husband Bobby of Madera, Ca.; son, Bill McGowen and his wife Jessica of Albany, Ca.; grandson, David Noblett and his wife Mindy of Madera, Ca.; grandson, Michael Sullivan and his wife Nicole of Lucerne Valley, Ca.; grandchildren, Meliz, Peyton, Milani and Preston McGowen of Albany, Ca.; and great-grandchildren, John, Sara and Samantha Sullivan of Lucerne Valley, Ca., and Rody and Rhett Noblett of Madera, Ca. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sunset Avenue Church of Christ, 600 Orchard Avenue in Madera on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Private burial has been held at Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst. Remembrances may be made to Madera's Yosemite Bible Camp, c/o Sunset Avenue Church of Christ, 600 Orchard Avenue, Madera, Ca. 93637; or to the donor's favorite charity.
