Oscar MacDonald Lofstrom died Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the age of 93 in Oklahoma City. He was born December 24, 1916 in Elkins Park, PA to Oscar Emil and Sadie V. MacDonald Lofstrom.

Oscar was an accomplished musician and studied piano and organ at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. He, along with his band, appeared on the Major Bowes Amateur Hour in the early 1930's.

Above all, Oscar was a proud Marine. He was admired and respected by all. He served in the South Pacific during World War II receiving his field commission at Guadalcanal. He received the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for his service during the Korean War where he flew the fighter aircraft Vought F4U Corsair and helicopters. Oscar retired from his beloved Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of service.

Following his military career, he was employed by Rockwell International in California and in Tulsa before moving to Oklahoma City in 1974 where he was employed with the Rockwell Division of AeroCommander/Gulfstream.

After his retirement, Oscar was an active volunteer at Deaconess Hospital for 12 years where he formed many lasting friendships.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Helen Lofstrom of the home, his daughter Holly and grandson Chad Nelson of Federal Way, WA, daughter Wanda Moore and husband Bass and grandsons Tyler and Todd Moore of San Juan Capistrano, CA, his sister Thelma Sharman of Rydal, PA and many nieces and nephews; his stepchildren, Debbie Morris and husband Stan of Broken Arrow, OK and grandsons Randy and Chris Morris; Greg Kirkland and wife Sue and granddaughters Katie and Kelly Kirkland of San Francisco, CA; Karen New and husband John and grandson Brad New and family and "the light of Grandpa's life" granddaughter Megan Bailey and husband Kevin of Oklahoma City and grandson Scott Kirkland and family of Glendale, CA.

The family extends a special thank you to the Rev. Jim Easter and clergy of All Souls' Episcopal Church the staff of Deaconess Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 12, 2010 at All Souls' Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Burial will be Fort Sill National Cemetery, Lawton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to All Souls' Episcopal Church or Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral Service is under the direction Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper.
