Larry Richard Petska, 67, of Hershey, passed away June 4, 2018, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, after a short battle with cancer.
Larry was born on Nov 4, 1950, in Ord, to Richard Stanley and Lois Katherine (Crane) Petska. He graduated from Hershey High School in 1969 and joined the US Navy in June 1969, serving until June 1989. In addition to his other duty stations, he served on 3 submarines, The Sam Rayburn, the Francis Scott Key and the Von Stueben.
He married Ruth JoAnn Dishman on May 15, 1970, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He was a member of the Hershey American Legion Paul R. Martin No. 279. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycles, playing guitar and chess, and operating Ham radio. Larry was an avid sportsman, skeet and trap shooter, pistol and cowboy shooter, bird hunter and archer. He was a lifelong learner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lois Petska, and grandparents.
Larry is survived by his wife, JoAnn Petska of Hershey; sons, Michael and Richard of Sutherland; grandsons, John and Michael Jr. of North Platte; siblings, Jane (John) Haines of La Feria, Texas, Jean (Butch) Brecks of Cozad, Frances Petska of El Cerrito, California, Gary (Cindy) Petska and Linda Petska, both of Hershey, Virginia (Paul) Michalski of Elyria, Charles (Lisa) Petska of Cozad; sister-in-law, Mary (Terry) Collins of North Platte; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors.
Christian wake services will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday June 10, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sutherland with the Rev. James Janovec as celebrant.
